Bert Mayers ’23

BERT MAYERS DIED April 18, 1991, after a long illness that included a temporary stay in a local hospital.

A member of the Class of 1923, Bert left Princeton in 1921, in order to enter his family's business, where he began a career in varnish and enamel sales. He continued in this line of work for just a few years before his eventual switch to the investment business.

Bert's next move was to one of New York's leading investment banking firms as an account executive. He was ultimately wooed away from the firm by a group of clients who were able to persuade him to take on the management of their combined investment portfolio. With the 1929 stock market crash, however, and the subsequent depression, Bert moved to New Hampshire, where he actively pursued ceramics as a hobby, and where numerous and varied business ventures engaged him until retirement.

Bert is survived by his wife, artist Betty Sincere, a graduate of the College Montmorency of Paris; by his sons, Michael and Arthur; by his daughter, Mary Marcia Bernstein; and by his four grandchildren. The Class shares their sorrow and is proud to claim Bert Mayers as one of its own.
