Betty A. Peters ’82

Betty Annette Peters, M.D., died Sept. 11, 1994. She prepared at Huron H.S., in Ann Arbor, Mich. At Princeton, Betty graduated with honors in biology. She was also a dedicated community servant during and after her time at the university.

At Princeton, she served as treasurer for the Forum for Interracial Communication, as a volunteer at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital, and was also active in Circle-K and Imhotep Premed Society. After graduating, Betty volunteered in Washington, D.C., public schools and also worked with the Habitat for Humanity Jimmy Carter Works Program. Just prior to her death, Betty had joined the board of directors of the Assn. of Black Princeton Alumni.

In 1986, she earned her M.D. from the Univ. of California at San Francisco Medical School. She then pursued research at the Natl. Institutes of Health, and at the time of her death, she was pursuing a subspecialty gastroenterology at Georgetown. Betty also published numerous articles relating to her research, especially on her DNA and sickle-cell anemia research.

She is survived by her parents, Cloyd and Betty, sister Barbara, brother Philip, and many other friends and relatives. We mourn her loss and extend our deepest sympathy to her family.
