Body

arvey “Jack” Myers (Princeton 62), 82, passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones, on February 3, 2023, after a five year battle with cancer. Jack grew up in Somerville NJ and graduated from Somerville High. He majored in chemistry at Princeton, while also fostering his love of music, studying organ privately with Karl Weinrich and singing tenor for four years in the chapel choir. He attended medical school at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, graduating in 1966; his internship and first year residency in general surgery were at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. He volunteered for two years as a US Navy Medical Officer in the Construction Battalion (CBS) and then completed his 2nd to 4th year residencies in Cooperstown, N.Y. Jack spent nearly 3 decades as a general surgeon at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire. In the late 1970s, he co-founded the Seacoast Cancer Center. Starting in a corner of the hospital, it has since become a major cancer center in New Hampshire’s Seacoast area. During his tenure at Wentworth Douglass, Jack also served for ten years as chairman of the Cancer Committee, on the Medical Staff Executive Committee, and as a representative to the New Hampshire Medical Society. During his years of practice, he touched the lives of thousands of patients and their family members, and became known as a skillful and compassionate surgeon. In his later years, he could hardly go to a store in the area without encountering a grateful former patient. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vicky Myers, as well as his sons Tim Myers and Bill Gilmyers and his stepsons Alex and Spencer Wong. He is also missed by Tim’s wife Laura, Bill’s wife Jody, Spencer’s wife Raheleh and son , Aram, and his granddaughter Gillian.
