Brantz M. Bryan Jr. ’52

A fourth-generation Princetonian, he came to us from Millbrook School in Millbrook, N.Y., and after Army service in Japan. Majoring in politics and history, he belonged to Tower, played squash four years, and was an Orange Key officer. Later, he chaired our 1961 Carnival Combine and 10th reunion.

 

After graduation, he chose advertising with Doyle Dane Bernbach in New York. Starting as a mail boy, he left 18 years later as vice president and supervisor of $19 million in accounts. His trademark was showmanship and illusion, and he became a professional magician.

 

Seeing the advertising business become less personal and more analytical, he decided to apply his creativity to the hospitality business. In 1970, he founded the Regatta restaurant in Falmouth, Mass. A colorful personality, he set the stage for memorable dining experiences by greeting guests in brilliant sports jackets and patterned slacks.

 

Brantz married Wendy Wile in 1974, and they expanded to a second successful restaurant, the Regatta of Cotuit. There, at the Cape Cod mini in 2000, the class enjoyed a sumptuous final dinner.

 

Our class has lost another innovative member, and we offer our condolences to Wendy; his daughter, Marjorie Gay Laliberte; and grandchildren Emily and Stephen.
