Bruce died peacefully in his sleep Oct. 26, 2015, in Keene, N.H., after a brief period of declining health.

Preparing at Franklin (N.H.) High School, Bruce served as president of the student council. At Princeton, Bruce dined at Cloister Inn, majored in economics, and became famous (or notorious) as a founding partner of the Student Grinder Agency, which prepared and distributed “grinders” (also known as “hoagies” or “submarines,” in later parlance) throughout the campus. Who of us can forget the call of “grinders” throughout the campus in the late hours of the night? The Class of 1959 has forever been rotundly grateful.

Upon graduation, Bruce joined the Navy and served throughout the Vietnam War, until being discharged in 1970 with the rank of lieutenant. In 1969 he married Adele Moberg, and after discharge from the Navy, they moved to Burlington, Ontario. He became senior vice president of the Canadian division of the Paul Revere Life Insurance Co., from which he retired in 1993. Sadly, Adele predeceased him in 1989.

Bruce was civic-minded, serving as director of the Red Cross in Burlington and working with the United Way. He left us a legacy and fond culinary memories.
