Bruce Keenan Saffery ’51

Body

At Princeton he majored in mechanical engineering, was active in intramural sports, belonged to Cannon, and graduated magna cum laude. He roomed with John Bunnell, Robert Erdody, and Jack Sheble. Upon graduation, he worked for 19 years as a field-service engineer in the aerospace industry.

On May 21, 1955, he and Betty Callaway were married. In 1960 they moved to their home in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. After working for United Aircraft, United Technologies, and Marquardt, Bruce began a new career as a real-estate agent in 1970, and in 1974, he founded Homestead Realty in Manhattan Beach, Calif., where he served until his death as agent and broker.

Bruce died Feb. 5, 2008, from lung failure. He is survived by Betty; their children, Bruce, John, and Marion; grandchildren Jade, Pearl, Nate, and Ella; and his brother C. James Saffery ’53.

Bruce and his son John were interested in barbershop-quartet singing and were members of the South Bay Coastliners. Memorials to The Harmony Project, 817 Vine St. (Suite 204), Los Angeles, CA 90038 would be most appreciated. This organization provides musical instruments and instruction to underprivileged children in the Los Angeles area.
