C. Carlton Colyer ’52
The class lost one of its greatest free spirits April 29, 2006, when Carl Colyer died following a fatal heart attack he suffered while delivering a eulogy at a service for his 94-year-old mother.
Always pursuing some cause with great energy, ranging from aid for Armenians to restoring historic landmarks in Lubec, a quaint fishing village on the coast of Maine where he spent much of his recent years, Carl was never satisfied with the status quo. From his early childhood in West Orange and Glen Ridge, N.J., through Westminster School and Princeton, where he was a member of Cap and Gown, Theatre Intime, and Triangle Club, Carl was determined to achieve a career in acting, This he accomplished with distinction. Following many successful years on stage, Carl focused on teaching theater at several universities. He authored The Art of Acting, which became a highly regarded standard teaching manual.
Following a divorce, Carl found himself a single parent and became a devoted father to his son, Cameron. He eventually found the love of his life, Kathryn Rubeor, and with her spent a fulfilling life in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Lubec. Carl will be greatly missed by his family and his many saddened classmates.
