BILL DIED of a stroke Oct. 26, 1994, in Santa Barbara, Calif. He was 80. He prepared at Noble and Greenough School, where he later caught and was a trustee. At Princeton, he majored in history and was president of Tiger Inn. He was manager of varsity hockey, a member of the honor committee and was active in several other campus organizations.
During WWII, he served three years with the American Field Service, attached to the 9th and 8th British armies in Syria and North Africa and with the American 5th Army in Italy. He retired as a major in 1945.
From 1948-50, he served Princeton as assistant director of admissions and then as director until 1962. He was an Alumni Trustee from 1967-71. He was our first class agent for Annual Giving. He served two five-year terms as class v.p. and in 1962, his classmates named him “Man of ’36.”
In 1964, he moved to California and until 1981 was president of Samuel Edwards Associates of Santa Paula, a family-owned farming and land-development corporation. Beatrice P., his wife of 41 years, died in 1986. He is survived by a daughter, Jettie N.; sons C. William Jr. '70 and Peter B. '81; and three grandchildren. We will indeed miss this dynamic and loyal Princetonian.
