Canfield McKnight Himes ’39

Body

CANFIELD DIED Feb. 4, 1990, in Aiken, S.C., his home for the past decade since returning to this country from his former home in Cuernavaca, Mexico. But wherever he may have designated his official residence, truly the world wass Canfield's home. He loved travel and in one way or another he was always moving on.

Entering college from Lawrenceville, he stayed with us only through junior year, time enough, however, for him to write the lyrics for two songs in the Triangle show "Fol-de-rol." Then he moved on to work for Himes Company, a Washington, D.C. real estate firm, managing family properties, and also served as a director of the Joseph H. Himes Foundation. In 1940 he entered the Army with the Maryland National Guard. At the time of his discharge in 1945 he was with the O.S.S. in France

and Germany and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Shortly after the war he retired and his traveling days began. Eventually he divided his time between Mexico, Europe and Washington. In 1978 heart surgery led to his decision to leave Mexico and settle in Aiken where his sister Marilyn Riviere also had a home. She is his only survivor. To Marilyn we extend our sympathy and ex¬press our own sorrow at the loss of our old friend.
