Carl H. Bischoff ’16

CARL BISCHOFF passed away Christmas Day, 1991, just two weeks prior to his 101st birthday, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Carl entered Princeton in 1911 but left for one year of military training, returning to graduate with the Class of 1916. While at Princeton, Carl was a star he track team; he set numerous records which stood the test of considerable time.

Following graduation Carl served in various capacities with the federal government, beginning as one of the first inspectors for the preWWII F.H.A. Thereafter, he served as city manager for such communities as Abury Park and Rumford, NJ., and Lewiston, Me.

During WWII, Carl was the military governor of Fratamaggiore, Italy, and of Trondstein and Wolfratshausen in Germany. He was made an honorary citizen of Frattamaggiore.

After the war, Carl returned to government service and concluded his working career as the city manager of Sarasota, Fla. Carl's avocations included gardening, baseball, chess, gin rummy, and enviable raconteuring.

Carl is survived by a daughter, Carroll Richardson; six grandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; four nieces; and a nephew. Another daughter, Barbara Hanzely, passed away in 1990.

To the entire family and to Carl's devoted friend Jeanne Myers, the Class extends its sincere sympathy on the passing of a truly remarkable man who epitomized "Princeton in the nation's service."
