Chadwick F. Alger *58
Chadwick Alger, professor of political science at Ohio State University (OSU), died Feb. 15, 2014, at the age of 89.
Born in 1924, Alger was on active duty in the Pacific with the Navy from 1943 to 1946. After graduating from Ursinus College in 1949, he earned a master’s degree from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University in 1950. After four years as an intelligence analyst with the Navy, he entered Princeton and earned a Ph.D. in politics in 1958.
From 1958 to 1971, Alger taught political science at Northwestern University. In 1971, he joined the faculty at OSU as Mershon Professor of Political Science and Public Policy, where he completed his more than 40-year career of teaching.
Alger wrote numerous books and more than 100 articles on the United Nations, peace building, and conflict resolution. He was a past president of the International Studies Association.
He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Elinor; and is survived by four children and four grandchildren.
