Charles B. Colmore Jr. ’35

Body

WITH SORROW we report that "Bish" Colmofe died of cancer May 12, 1991, at his home in Baltimore.

Born in Havana, he also lived in Puerto Rico, where his father was Episcopal Bishop of Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Dish was an active church layman all of his life, and his only son, C.B. III, is a priest.

Bish prepared at the Kent School, where he was class president and later a trustee. At Princeton he majored in Spanish, was on the swimming and lacrosse teams, and managed ivy Club.

He worked for Proctor & Gamble from 1935 to 1965 in sales, about a decade of it in the Philippines, where he was able to play tennis year 'round. He also served as a chair umpire in Davis Cup matches. In 1965, he requested and was granted early retirement to take up a career in real estate and watercolor painting. He had many oneman shows, mostly in Maine and Baltimore.

Margaret Vander Veer, of New York City, and Bish were married in 1936, raised three children, and divorced in 1975. A year later, he married Margarita Davis, who had two sons from an earlier marriage.

Always active and outgoing, Bish had many good friends in the class and wherever he lived. All will want to join in extending our sympathy to his widow; his son, Rev. C. Blayney Colmore 111; his daughters, Jean Perrine Catlin and Sylvia de Murias; 13 grandchildren; and sisters Sarah Adams and Margaret Dunn. His three brothers, Henry '27, Robert '31, and John '44, predeceased him.
