Charles B. Stoll ’44
CHARLIE DIED of cancer Mar. 25, 1994, at the Cabrim Hospice in Manhattan. He is survived by his widow, Lizanne Adams Stoll, and daughters Alexandra, Vivian, and Diana. Charlie joined '44 from Mercersburg. Freshman year, he roomed with Bob W. Bennett at 23 Madison St. and at Lower Pyne and North Dod as a sophomore. His major was English, his club, Key and Seal. After graduation, he served three and a half years in the marines in WWII and in Korea, separating as a captain . He began his 40 years with John Wiley & Sons in 1946 in sales, climbing the publishing ladder through various executive positions to V.P. of its publishing group. He was on the Wiley Board of Directors for 22 years. A frequent visitor to the People's Republic of China (P.R.C.) from 1979 to the mid 1980s, he developed co-publishing programs with P.R.C. scitech publishers and supervised training for bilingual reps from PR.C publishing houses. Chairman Emeritus W. B. Wiley It lauded Charlie as "a trusted advisor and manager instrumental in establishing Wiley as a global publisher." In his final years, he was on the board of trustees of Princeton University Press. A tried and true New Yorker, wise, competent and blessed with a keen sense of humor, he was respected throughout the publishing industry.
