CRAWF IRVINE died June 23, 1992, in Issaquah, Wash., where he had moved in 1985, a few years after retirement, to be near family. He is survived by his widow, Joann; three daughters; and a sister.

Crawf was a member of Gateway Inn and majored in philosophy and the School of Public and International Affairs. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa junior year and won highest honors at graduation, as well as several other scholastic awards. He went on to the Graduate School and gained his Ph.D. in 1942. During WWII he was in Navy Intelligence, serving in Africa and India. Two years in the State Dept. followed.

In 1948, he joined Standard of New Jersey's Creole Petroleum to work in personnel policy in Venezuela. He married Joann Dytert, a fellow State Dept. employee, in 1949. After seven years in Venezuela, his work took them to Iran and finally back to the U.S., in 1962, when he became personnel policy coordinator for Exxon's international operations. He retired in 1982.

Crawf was a gifted classical pianist. He also enjoyed reading and traveling. His many friends wilt miss him.
