Charles E. Wilson ’40

Charlie’s son, Marc, reported that his father, a longtime resident of Bethlehem, Pa., died March 3, 2010.

A graduate of Windber (Pa.) Area High School, he majored in chemistry at Princeton and earned second group departmental honors. He was a member of CAA and Key and Seal.

From the time of his graduation in June 1940 until December 1945, Charlie served in the Air Force in the European and North African theaters. Retiring as a lieutenant colonel, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and 11 air medals.

His business career was with Bethlehem Steel until his retirement in 1976. He managed various departments and was responsible for the company’s safety program. As Charlie’s comments aver in our 40th yearbook, his retirement became semi-retirement when he put his “No. 1 hobby, investment analysis, on a self-controlled status” with the local office of Thomson McKinnon Securities.

He was a member of the American Society of Safety Engineers and general chairman of the metals section of the National Safety Council. He was regional chair for Princeton’s Annual Giving. Bowling and sports car rallies were his hobbies.

His classmates offer sincere sympathies to his survivors: sons Jeff, Bruce, and Marc; and two grandchildren. Charlie was predeceased by his wife, the former Geraldine Ann Peltier.
