Charles Henry Tenney II ’41

He prepared at St. Paul’s School and Andover. At Princeton he majored in geology and French. Mike was captain of our freshman hockey team and was on the staff of Tiger magazine. He roomed with Bill Quinby and joined Cap and Gown Club.

Mike left after junior year to marry Polly Mays. He later earned a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering from the University of Nevada. He next entered the Navy, serving from 1943 to 1946 and separating as a lieutenant junior grade.

Mike joined the family business started by his grandfather, C.H. Tenney, who was instrumental in helping develop many gas and electric utilities in New England. Mike eventually became chairman of the board of Bay State Gas and Unitil Corp.

He was an avid golfer and musician.  

Predeceased by Polly and by his second wife, Gloria Bond Tenney, Mike is survived by his sons, Rockwell C. II ’66 and Charlie H. III; stepsons Roger and Robert Young; and two grandchildren, Mariel H. and Andrew C. Tenney.
