Charles Peters ’67
WE LOST one of our most outstanding classmates when Chuck Peters died on Feb. 17, 1989 in Houston, Tex. At the time of his death he was a practicing surgeon with St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, where he specialized in general surgery and surgical nutrition.
Chuck was born on May 5, 1945. He graduated from North Central H.S. in Indianapolis, Ind., where he was class valedictorian and a member of the varsity football, basketball, and baseball teams. At Princeton, Chuck excelled in all that he did. A chemical engineering major, he finished near the top of our class while at the same time starred as quarterback of our winning football team. Chuck roomed with Bill Berkley, Steve Robbins, Hank Herrod, Bucky Clarkson and Tom Adler, and was a member of Ivy Club.
After Princeton, Chuck attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. He went on to Harvard Med. School and completed his residency at Mass. General Hospital. He was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
Chuck was a strong and wonderful friend. His sincerity and genuine concern for others were hallmarks of his winning personality. His greatest effort was to surmount the carefully hidden mental depression that afflicted him. His recent treatment failed tragically when Chuck ended his own life.
Chuck leaves his widow, Cindy (Kriesmer), and his daughter Carrie. The class extends its heartfelt sympathy to them and to the rest of his family. We grieve with them at this great and premature loss.
