Charles T. Silverson ’30

Body

AFTER A LONG and lingering illness, our classmate Charles T. Silverson died Feb. 8, 1993, at Friendship Village in Bloomington, Minn. A prominent and lifelong citizen of his native state, he was a mainstay of the whole area in which he lived. He was a founder and an early president of the Citizen's League, an avid son of the outofdoors who strongly supported the development of parks and open spaces in his region and who devoted much of his time to community activities. He was chairman of the trustees of Northrop Collegiate School. He was also active in family and children's services of various kinds. His zest for nature and love of photography led him, with his wife Betty, to record on film at least six of their trips to Africa.

Charles prepared for Princeton at the Blake School. After graduating from Princeton, which always remained an important part of his life, Charles took two years of study at the Harvard Business School to prepare him to carry on the family grain business. Later, after disposing of his business interests, he devoted much of his time to community affairs. True patriarch that he was, he established a family dynasty. Preceded in death by his wife, Betty; a friend since childhood; and a daughter; he is survived by a host of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To his son Charles Jr. '59 and all his progeny, the Class extends its deepest sympathy in the loss of so distinguished a man.
