Charles Willard Bennett Wardell Jr. ’35

Charlie came to Princeton from Poly Prep in Brooklyn, N.Y. At Princeton he majored in political science, was a member of Tiger Inn, and roomed with R. Manning Brown ’36. He lettered in football all three years and played on the undefeated 1933 team. In lacrosse he also lettered for three years and was a first-team All-American selection in 1934 and 1935. He was captain of the undefeated 1935 team, scoring five goals against both Harvard and Yale.  

During World War II he served as a lieutenant in the Navy in the Pacific theater. After the war, Charlie pursued a career in investment banking and retired as founder and CEO of Barrons Resources, an oil and gas exploration and development company. He loved Tiger Inn and Princeton and was a regular attendee at Reunions.  

Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Elsa, in 1997. At the time of his death he was survived by a daughter, three sons, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. We join them in mourning his passing.
