"CHANCE" DIED July 21, 1994. He was 81. He prepared at the Newman School in Lakewood, N.J. At Princeton, he majored in political science and was a member of Dial Lodge. He was also a championship rifleman in undergraduate competition.

The son of O. T. Horton '06, several other of Chance's relatives also attended Princeton, including uncles Daniel '05, Ralph '10, and Jerome '15, as well as cousins Ralph M. Jr. '39 and Theodore T. '42. Over a door in University Chapel is a memorial to his grandfather, Loton, that was donated by Chance's father and three uncles.

Chance served 54 months during WWII in the navy, rising from yeoman, 3rd class, to lt. commander, while serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters.

Throughout his working career, Chance was associated with several firms in the field of advertising and public relations. In 1968, he joined the New York State Health Dept. as a public-relations specialist. He retired in 1976, then spent several years volunteering in three Albany, N.Y., hospitals; with the American Red Cross; and with the Coxsackie Correctional Inst., a prison for young inmates, to whom he taught basic reading and writing skills. His hobbies included extensive traveling and collecting paintings and Wedgwood.

Chance is survived by brothers Ernest, Donald, and Gerard, and sister Helen.
