Christopher C. Magorian ’81

Body

Chris Magorian died suddenly on June 22, 1989, from a heart-related illness. He will be missed terribly.

Chris was born on Mar. 13, 1959, and grew up in Amherst, N.Y. At Princeton, he was a member of Cloister Inn and graduated magna cum laude from the Woodrow Wilson School. While he was in college, he also cultivated what became a longstanding interest in environmental affairs. After graduation, he worked for the Pennsylvania Environmental Research Foundation and co-authored a book with Prof. David Morrell on siting hazardous waste facilities. In 1982, Chris entered Yale Law School. He became an editor of the Yale Law Journal and an active participant in the Environmental Litigation Program. After he received his degree, he clerked with Chief Judge Robert Peckham of the Northern District of California. He spent the next three years practicing environmental law in San Francisco, most recently at Morrison & Foerster.

Chris is survived by his widow, Toni, whom he married in Sept. 1987. They had planned to pursue careers in academics—she in medicine, he in environmental law. He is also survived by his parents, Dr. Thomas and Roslyn Magorian, his brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Alice Magorian, and his sister, Fern Magorian.

A memorial fund has been established in Chris's honor to support environmental-law teaching and research at Yale Law School. Contact David Martland '82, at 617-951-7603, for details.
