Clarence J. Dauphinot Jr. ’35

Body

Clarence J. Dauphinot Jr. died of a heart attack Jan. 13, 1995. His passing is a grievous loss to his family and many friends. He prepared at Choate and roomed with George Boynton, Harry Brooks, Sandy Kellogg, and Phil Nelson. He majored in economics with honors and belonged to Tiger Inn.

He started in business as a runner with Kidder Peabody. In 1946, with associates in Brazil, he founded Deltec Intl. Deltec became a prime force in the fledgling securities market in Latin America, and grew to $1 billion in assets as an investment merchant-banking group. Appropriately, the firm's head quarters were in Nassau, Bahamas.

Dauph married Nancy White in l 939. In 1945, he wed Valerie Lathrop. He married Penelope Charske in 1959. We know of five daughters, Gillette Piper, Candace, Tori, Kiendl Gordon, and Cassandra Moore, and 10 grandchildren. The class extends its sincere condolences to all.
