Colwell Carey ’38 *39

Body

COLWELL CAREY, known to most of us as Jack, died suddenly, Apr. 7, 1993, after a brief illness. A professional mechanical engineer, he retired from CurtissWright Aeronautics in 1972.

Jack was the son of John A. Carey '08. He was a member of Terrace Club; roomed with Tom Carey, Arnold Dater, and Bob Galvin '39; and was on the NASSAU LIT board and the electrical crew of Theatre Intime. He garnered departmental honors and the Taber and Wallace Memorial scholarships and graduated with high honors. He received his M.E. degree in 1939, before joining CurtissWright.

During WWII, he was a company representative with Navy aircraft units. By 1963, he had become a chief project engineer responsible for development of aircraft engines and control systems. After retirement, he moved to Cheshire, Conn.

Jack is survived by his widow, the former Louise Paul; daughter Kathleen Perkins, her husband James, and their two daughters; a sister, Joan Zier; and a brother, Clarke '47. In honor of his love for Princeton, a memorial fund has been established for him at Terrace Club.
