Condit Nelson Eddy Jr. ’51

Jake was born Oct. 14, 1927, in Watertown, N.Y., to Condit and Emma Hazel Eddy. He attended Watertown schools and served in the Army before coming to Princeton. Jake was a sixth-generation Princetonian; his father was in the Class of 1912, and his grandfather was in the Class of 1875.
A descendant of three generations of American missionaries in Syria and Lebanon, he graduated with a degree in Near Eastern studies at Princeton. He belonged to Charter and roomed with John Moore and Steven Wood.
In 1955 Jake began his service with the CIA. William A. Eddy 1917 had been instrumental in the creation of the Central Intelligence Agency in 1947.
In 1958 Jake and Nancy Boardman were married. Over the years his tours of duty took him and his family to the Middle East, Washington, Britain, and other posts. He retired in 1980 and was a consultant until 1994. His home was in Chevy Chase, Md., but his favorite place was the family camp on Long Pond in Willsboro, N.Y., in the Adirondacks.
Jake died Aug. 27, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Nancy; their children Nicholas and Kristin; two grandchildren; and cousins Ray Close ’51 and Margaret Anderson ’78.
