Curtis Wellington Poole ’50

Body

CURT POOLE died Dec. 30, 1991, from the effects of Parkinson's disease. Despite his long illness, Curt never lost his grace and dignity, nor his wonderful sense of humor.

Curt came to Princeton from Aberdeen, S.D., in the fall of 1946, after having served in the Navy. He roomed all four years with Bert Pittis, Jack Powers, and Charlie Ulrichs. Curt played varsity football and was a member of Tiger Inn. He graduated with honors from the Woodrow Wilson School. After serving two years in the Army during the Korean War, Curt joined the State Dept. While in Washington, he met and married Arden Bennett, in 1954. They lived in Cambridge while Curt attended Harvard Law School. After graduation, Curt joined Dykema, Gossett in Detroit, where he had a distinguished career in corporate law for 30 years. They lived in Birmingham.

Curt never backed away from a challenge or from anything that he believed was right. He organized a group of Detroit lawyers to protest the Viet Nam Warthis in spite of the opposition of many of his colleagues and clients. Curt loved the home on Lake Michigan that he and Arden built, where he enjoyed winter skiing and summer sailing. He was a fine upland game hunter.

Curt is survived by his widow and their four children, Steven, Kristin, Thomas, and Katherine, and a granddaughter. Curt was a good friend to inany of us; we have lost one of our very best.
