Dale died Oct. 14, 2016, in a horseback-riding accident at his ranch in Matheson, Colo., where he lived his entire adult life.

Dale graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy. At Princeton he took his meals at Ivy and worked on The Daily Princetonian. He majored in Latin American studies, culminating in a Fulbright scholarship to Buenos Aires and two years in the Peace Corps in Colombia.

Dale was a well-known Colorado cattle rancher and conservationist, carrying on four generations of cattle breeding and ranch management at the Lasater Ranch, founded in 1948 by his parents, Tom and Mary. He received the Stuart P. Dodge lifetime award from the Palmer Land Trust in 2012 and the Slow Food Award for Biodiversity in Turin, Italy, in 2002. He was active in a broad range of conservation and livestock activities, speaking around the world on those subjects.

He is survived by his wife, Janine Vidal de Moragas; sons Alexander and Thomas; two grandchildren; brothers Laurence ’63 and Lane ’68; and sister Sally.

To his survivors and his extended family, we send our deepest condolences on the untimely loss of a man who clearly lived a full and productive life, giving back much to his community and on behalf of the environment.
