Daniel Bushner ’75

Body

Our classmate Daniel Bushner died of lung cancer on April 25, 2016, at his home in Laguna Hills, Calif. He was 63.

A distinguished lawyer who practiced in London, England, for more than three decades, including with Citigroup there, Daniel was born in Independence, Mo., and graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy before coming to Princeton. He served as Class president during our sophomore year and majored in the Woodrow Wilson School. Daniel went on to earn a master’s degree at Oxford and then returned to the States and graduated cum laude from Georgetown Law Center. He practiced law with a Wall Street firm for three years before moving to London.

After his career was established, Daniel and “the love of his life,” Malia Shipp, were married in San Francisco. They had twins, Daniel and Bella, and a second son, Peter. The family thrived in London, as did Daniel’s legal career. Most of the family moved to Laguna Hills, as planned, so that the children could attend public schools in the States while Daniel wrapped up his legal career in London. Daniel’s illness and sudden, unexpected death thwarted his plan to join them and begin a new phase of his life in the States.

The Class extends sympathy to Malia and their children, and to Daniel’s mother, who also survives him, and to his many friends. We share their loss.
