Daniel Dubose Hansen ’52

Body

Dan Hansen died on Oct 14, 1987, while making a house call. He was a physician in private practice (both general and cardiology), and he served on the staff of Hemet Valley Hospital, in Hemet, Ca1if.

At Princeton, Dan was the drum major of the Band, a member of Dial Lodge and the Student Christian Assn., and a deacon of the Chapel. For excellence in chemistry, he received an award from the National Chemistry Honorary Society. After graduating from U.C.L.A. Medical School in 1956, Dan held research fellowships and served at Columbus Air Force Base, in Columbus, Miss. In 1962, after a fellowship at Menninger's, Dan entered private practice in Inglewood, Calif. He also taught at U.C.L.A. Medical School. Dan wrote and taught extensively in the fields of cardiology and psychosomatic medicine. In 1975, Dan suffered a head injury in an auto accident, but this injury slowed his pace only slightly. He was chief of staff and cardiology at L.A.'s Daniel Freeman and Centinella Community Hospital in 1976, and before he moved to the Hemet area in 1979, he served as chief of cardiology at VA hospitals in Boise, Ida., and Reno, Nev. Dan founded the Hemet Valley Hospice and served as lay leader in the Presbyterian Church.

Dan is survived by his son, Lindsay, and his daughter, Genevieve. He was committed to a personal practice, and his patients valued his compassion and spiritual strength as well as his vast experience and knowledge.
