Daniel G. Drath ’59 *62

Dan died Sept. 10, 2025, after a brief cancer recurrence, in Friday Harbor, Wash., where he had lived since 2002.
He attended Sir Francis Drake High School in San Anselmo, Calif. where he joined the ski club and belonged to the track team and student court. He was a cheerleader at Princeton and majored in electrical engineering. He joined the ski team and Outing Club, belonged to Key and Seal, and roomed with Burt Johnson and Dick Lanza. He returned to Princeton for his MSE in 1962. He spent nearly three decades in the San Francisco Bay Area, working as a senior staff engineer at Lockheed Missiles & Space Co., before retiring in 1992.
Dan was a man of remarkable breadth and interests. He raced and cruised San Francisco Bay aboard his Bird Boat and Farallone Clipper; built skiffs, kayaks, and dories by hand; and crafted fine furniture. He held ham radio call sign N6AU, qualified as a Merchant Marine master, and at 79 passed the Morse code exam at 30 words per minute. He studied German into his 80s, sang barbershop, built model trains, and found community in Friday Harbor through radio, rowing, and service.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen; children Emily (Mark) and Daniel ’95 (Aaron); and grandsons Ryan, Andrew, and Henry.
