Dan died March 3, 2026, in Two Harbors, Minn.

A son of ’34, he came to us from Hotchkiss School. At Princeton, he majored in history, took his meals at Cloister, and roomed with Dave Stebbing and David Woodard ’62.

After Princeton, he earned an M.Div. at Bryn Athyn College Theological School and a master’s in sacred theology at Lutheran Theological Seminary before embarking on a career in teaching history and religion at the Academy of the New Church in Bryn Athyn, Pa. He was president of the Academy for 10 years before retiring in 2010, then relocating to Big Horn, Wyo., and then Two Harbors in 2014. He was active to the end, leading backpacking trips in the Rockies with his students and children. He died “chopping wood with his boots on,” as he always wanted.

Preceded in death in 2025 by Ruth, his wife of 63 years, and his son Danny in 1989 in a climbing accident, Dan is survived by four daughters, eight grandchildren, and two sisters.
