Darragh De Lancey Jr. ’27
DARRAGH DELANCEY DIED Dec. 22, 1994, at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J., after a long illness, which culminated in a heart attack. He carne to Princeton from Taft School, served on the editorial board of THE DAILY PRINCETONIAN for four years and was a member of Whig Hall, Ivy Club, and the Polity Club. He majored in history, winning Phi Beta Kappa honors. He graduated from Yale Law School in 1932, then worked with several N.Y.C. law firms. In WWII, he served in the naval air command, entering as a lieutenant and ending up in 1945 as a commander.
After the war, he returned to his N.Y.C. law firm, Morris and McVeigh, as a senior associate in tax law. In 1949, he joined the Estate Planning Corp. in N.Y.C., becoming V.P. and chief legal officer. In 1953, he moved to the Fiduciary Trust Co. of N.Y., becoming trust officer. He married Helene Pearson in 1943, while serving with the navy at St. Simons I., Ga. She died in 1973, and he wed Beatrice Trainer in 1975. Darragh took early retirement about 1965, living for many years at Quogue, N.J. He and Beatrice then moved to Harridel Medical Center till a month before he died and she still lives there. The class joins her in mourning the loss of a smart, colorful classmate. The memorialist is indebted for much of this memorial to Beatrice's son, Edgar Boody.
