Dave died Jan. 11, 2020, the result of advanced lymphoma and related complications.

Dave came to Princeton as a National Merit Scholar from La Jolla (Calif.) High School, following the path of his father, who was a member of the Class of ’33. At Princeton he was a football team manager, belonged to the Yacht and Outing clubs, and was a member of Terrace Club.

Dave was a consistently loyal and generous Princeton alumnus, serving on the Alumni Schools Committee and Music Advisory Council and as a leadership-giving volunteer. His major gift in 1983 enabled the University to rebuild the interior of Alexander Hall to create an outstanding concert facility, named in the memory of Dave’s father, David B. Richardson ’33.

A man of wide-ranging interests, he was involved in producing jazz albums and earned a law degree from Pepperdine and an urban-planning degree from UCLA.

In 1984 Dave married Carol Carfagno, sister of Ed Carfagno ’63. Following the death of Ed’s wife, Debbie, at an early age, Dave and Carol assumed an active role in the lives of Ed’s young daughters, Piera and Sydney.

The class joins Carol, Ed, Piera, and Sydney in mourning the loss of our classmate.
