David Ballentine Hinchman ’28
DAVE DIED Apr. 21, 1993, in Sarasota, Fla. He prepared for college at Exeter. At Princeton, he majored in English and was a member of Tower Club.
He worked for Johnston & Clark, general agents for the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co. in Detroit, and for Price Waterhouse & Co., and studied at the Univ. of Michigan in order to become a certified public accountant. From 1942 to 1953, he was general auditor for Briggs Manufacturing Co., maker of airplane and automobile parts. This firm was acquired by the Chrysler Corp., and Dave became comptroller of the automobile body division of Chrysler. He belonged to several state and national accounting societies, and was a director of the Nail, Assn, of Cost Accountants. He was a member of the Grosse Pointe Memorial Presbyterian Church. The Hinchmans moved from Grosse Pointe Farms to Sarasota in 1978.
Dave married Anne Fuller Matheson on June 27, 193 1. Anne died in Sarasota an July 14, 199 1. Dave is survived by a son, Theodore H. III; a daughter, Anne Louise (Mrs. Sterling) Berry; 12 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. Another son, David '61, is deceased. Other Princeton relatives were two brothers, Theodore Jr. '25 and John M. '30, and a cousin, Ralph P. '16, all deceased.
Dave was a loyal Princetonian. At different times he was secretary, treasurer, and V.P. of the Princeton Club of Michigan. He and Anne were present at our 50th and 55th reunions. Dave's companionable friendship created many happy memories for his classmates.
