David E. Kuizenga ’48

Body

David, the son of a minister, was born May 8, 1927, in Caldwell, N.J. He attended the Lawrenceville School, then in 1944 enlisted in the Army Specialized Training Program and was sent to Korea. He started Princeton after discharge and graduated with the Class of 1950.

His civilian career was in the auto-insurance business, first in New York with the Mutual Insurance Bureau. In 1976 he moved to San Francisco and managed an assigned-risk plan, which provided insurance coverage for those who otherwise “could not get coverage without strong proof of eligibility.” His work required multiple contacts with the state legislature and a variety of insurance providers.

David was twice married. From the first marriage he had a son, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. In his second marriage, to Nancy Kuizenga, “there were many trips to England, Ireland, and France that followed.”

David died Feb. 7, 2020, at age 92.
