David died Jan. 30, 2026, in Arlington, Va.

He came to us from Lower Merion High School in Ardmore, Pa., where he was the concertmaster of the high school orchestra, assistant editor of the yearbook, a National Merit Scholar, and member of the National Honor Society. At Princeton, he was a member of Whig-Clio, served a year on the Arts at Princeton Committee, and was a member of BRINK — an early expression of peace activism at Princeton in an era of nuclear anxiety. He also played guitar and mandolin with the Original Mercer County Rambling Boys. He was a Woodrow Wilson major and a member of the Woodrow Wilson Society.

Following graduation, he earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and began a long legal career in both private and public capacities. He began as a staff attorney at the Federal Power Commission, moved to private practice and in 1975 began as the assistant general counsel of the Postal Rate Commission, becoming general counsel in 1979 until his retirement in 1992. He then was self-employed as an attorney and consultant.

He listed his marital status as single and there are no listed survivors.
