David George Butz ’48

Dave Butz, a longtime resident of New Providence, N.J., died on Christmas Eve 2009 at the age of 83. His career was as an audio engineer.

A graduate of Columbia High School in Maplewood, N.J., Dave joined us in July 1944 and left Princeton in 1947. He was technical director of WPRU and majored in physics.

He was a lead audio designer for more than 47 years on projects such as Giants Stadium, the Meadowlands Racetrack, New Jersey Performing Arts Center, New Jersey Sports Arena, and Boscobel Estate in Garrison, N.Y. He had many projects in Atlantic City, including the Taj Mahal and other casinos. He retired in 1997.

Dave was a member of the Central Presbyterian Church in Summit and active with the Stony Hill Players in Warren.

Dave is survived by Betty, his wife of 58 years; his son, Nelson; and daughter Judy.
