David Hardie Hutchinson ’46 *49

Body

DAVE HUTCHINSON died Dec. 4, 199 1, after a brief battle against cancer. Hutch was born in Chicago, attended the Hill School, and received both his B.S.E. and M.A. from Princeton in chemical engineering. During the war he joined the Navy, serving in the Pacific on the U.S.S. KENT ISLAND and in the Atlantic on the U.S.S. MONITOR.

Soon after graduation, Hutch went into the oil business, first with ESSO. He then worked for many years with Mobil, initially overseas in India, England, and Germany, and eventually back home as V.P. of planning coordination for the exploration and production division of Mobil in New York.

After retirement in 1984, Hutch turned his energies to his lifelong love of sailing, racing lightnings and skippering his own boat in the 1989 Bermuda race. In addition to sailing, Hutch lent his expertise to the Intl. Executive Service ("Paunch") Corps, supporting the private sector in Jordan. Hutch played a key role in Red Cross drives and served on PTA. and Y.M.C.A. boards.

Hutch is survived by his widow, Carol; his son David Jr.; his daughters Joanna Longdale and Deborah Gore; and four grandchildren. Hutch was an admired, enthusiastic member of our Class, and his presence will be sorely missed.

To all of Hutch's family, the Class sends its deepest sympathy; we all regret the passing of a dear friend and loyal classmate.
