David J. Schauffler ’32

Body

DAVE SCHAUFFLER, who resided at a retirement community in Bellevue, Wash., died on Aug. 15, 1992. A memorial service was held on Sept. 19, the day he was to be married to his fiancee, Pauline Clark.

Dave spent most of his active career as an engineer with the Bendix Corp. in New Jersey, retiring in 1972. During WWII he served in the U.S. Army at Los Alamos, from 1943 to 1946.

After retirement Dave and his wife, Eleanor, lived in New Jersey, until their daughter and her family moved to the Seattle area. The Schaufflers then joined their descendants in the Northwest, but before long they settled in Clearwater, Fla., a climate more to their liking. When Eleanor died, however, Dave moved to the Washington Court Retirement Center, where he actively participated in its programs, serving as V.P. of the residents association and as a member of the chorus. He was also a member of the Musical Church in Bellevue.

In addition to his fiancee, Dave leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Steven Cleaves, and a grandson, Jeff Cleaves. The Class expresses its deep sympathy to all of them.
