DAVID JOHN SACHS *53, retired professor of philosophy at Johns Hopkins Univ., succumbed to cancer Nov. 23, 1992, at the age of 71. He was distinguished among his peers as a leading critic and an intellectually generous colleague. He was awarded a bachelor's degree in 1945 by U.C.L.A. At Princeton, he earned a master's degree, in 1948, and a Ph.D. in the Dept. of Philosophy. Dr. Sachs served in junior faculty positions at Cornell Univ., Brandeis Univ., Iowa State Univ., and Rutgers Univ. In 1969, he moved to Johns Hopkins, from which he retired in July 1992, becoming professor emeritus. Dr. Sachs was an acknowledged expert in three fields of philosophy: the philosophy of the mind, ethics, and ancient philosophy. He had written extensively in all three areas of specialization, and his writings have been accorded much favorable recognition, Prof. Sachs never married. He is survived by two sisters, Bee Lieberman and Ella Hubschman. To them we extend sincere sympathy in the loss of their brother,
