David Lee Giles ’52

Body

Dave joined us from Memphis, where he had studied at Memphis Technical High School.

A member of Campus Club, he played club football and majored in sociology. His senior-year roommates were Keith Dawson, Colin McAneny, and Pete Cartwright. After graduation he served in Army intelligence in Europe, then began a career in the oil business, including a period of time acquiring exploratory and oil-producing properties for Getty.

With his first wife, Magle Hardin, Dave had a son, Randall, who survives him. Their marriage ended in divorce. With his second wife, Doris Copeland Giles, he retired to Eureka Springs, Ark., a Victorian resort town in the Ozark Mountains.

An active member of Eastside Church of Christ, Dave died in his sleep of a heart attack April 16, 2006, at home. He was 76. The class extends its sympathy to Doris and Randall.
