DAVE DIED of lung and brain cancer Jan. 11, 1992, in Great Falls, Mont. He was a retired mining engineer, having spent his entire career in gold, oil, and uranium exploration in South Africa, Venezuela, Jordan Honduras, and the Dominican Republic. He had lived the last nine years in San Francisco, before his sister Harriet Welsh Gray moved him to Great Falls a few weeks prior to his death.

Dave came to Princeton from Billings High School and majored in geological engineering. He served in Naval intelligence during WWII, with the rank of lieutenant, in India and China. After the war he received a master's degree from the California Institute of Technology.

Dave then worked as a mining engineer and geologist for Sinclair, Union Carbide, Carter Oil, and Rosario Mining Co., on three continents. He also worked for other firms in Wyoming, Arizona, Montana, and Utah.

To Dave's two daughters, Lucy and Sarah; to his son James; and to his sister Harriet; the Class exb nd its most sincere condolences.
