David Newhall III ’61

David died March 17, 2018, in Fredericksburg, Va.

Born in 1937, he came to Princeton from Germantown Academy in Philadelphia. At Princeton he majored in politics and took his meals at Tower.

David had a long and varied career as a newspaper reporter, chief of staff for 18 years to Richard S. Schweiker, principal deputy assistant secretary (health affairs) in the U.S. Department of Defense, and board member for a major health network and health-insurance provider. He was also a general contractor specializing in the restoration of houses in the historic district of Fredericksburg, not to mention developing a successful beef cattle operation on his beloved farm, Marmion, where he lived for 41 years.

David is survived by his partner, Larry J. Tomayko; loving cousins; and a host of long-time friends.
