Dave died Dec. 18, 2018.

He came to us from the Kingswood School, as had his father W. Thurston Rowley 1922. Dave joined Dial and majored in mechanical engineering, belonged to the Society of Automotive Engineers, and was the Dial club treasurer. He roomed with George Paff and Bob Frey. He was in the Navy ROTC — serving two years as a gunnery officer — then came back to Princeton and earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Dave worked in research and development of oil-drilling equipment at Norton Christensen Corp. as vice president of technology and held 23 patents. He then worked for a time in his own business as a consulting engineer before retiring in 1994. Among his volunteer activities, he spent 23 years in the Coast Guard Auxiliary teaching boat safety.

Dave is survived by his wife, Sharron; and his children, Duncan, Katherine, Howard, Laura, and Karen. To them the class offers sympathy and our respect for their father’s service to the nation.
