David died Nov. 13, 2016, at Forest Manor in Hope, N.J. He was 96.

David was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Kasauli, India, to Presbyterian missionary parents. He attended Woodstock School in the foothills of the Himalayas and earned his bachelor’s degree from Princeton and his master’s degree from Columbia University.

David was a veteran of the Navy, serving during World War II. He was a decorated pilot and a prisoner of war — he spent nine months in an internment camp in Siberia.

Following his military service, he worked for the YMCA, first in the United States and then with the International YMCA in Pakistan, where he helped to build hostels and a technical-training institute. He raised his family there from 1954 to 1973.

Upon returning to the United States, he made his home in Pottersville, N.J. He worked for Chemical Bank as a foreign-currency trader for 10 years before retiring. David loved to travel, and enjoyed frequent trips back to India and to new destinations in Europe and throughout the world after retirement.

David was predeceased by his wife, Margaret. He is survived by his children, Frank ’69, Lucy, Randy, and Anna; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother H. Thomas; and his dear friend, Lillian Henning, and her daughter and granddaughter.
