Dennis H. Sullivan *75

Dennis died Feb. 14, 2026, in Oxford, Ohio, at the age of 80.

He was born in Modesto, Calif., July 26, 1945, and grew up in Cranford, N.J. Dennis received his B.A. from Williams in 1967. He served as a first lieutenant in the Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base before earning a Ph.D. in economics from Princeton in 1975. His dissertation subject was “An economic theory of religious contributions.”

In 1973, Dennis joined the faculty of Miami University of Ohio, where he remained until he retired. His areas of specialization were poverty economics, public sector economics, and urban economics. At Miami, Dennis also served as director of international business programs. He held visiting positions at Vanderbilt, Syracuse, Semmering, Austria, and MUDEC in Luxembourg.  He co-wrote two books: Poorly Paid: Work and the Well-Being of Low-Income Families, and a study guide Concepts and Language of Economics.

Predeceased by his daughter, Deirdre, Dennis is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen, and his son, Paul.
