Dennis Nemeschansky *84

Body

Dennis died June 1, 2023, in Santa Clara, Calif., of glioblastoma.

Born Dec. 21, 1955, in Helsinki, Finland, Dennis completed his undergraduate studies in physics at the University of Helsinki and earned a Ph.D. in physics at Princeton in 1984. He pursued postdoctoral studies at Stanford.

Dennis grew to love California and accepted a faculty position at the University of Southern California, where he taught for more than 35 years.

His scholarship and research focused on quantum field theory and string theory and their application to unification of forces. He had been working on strong-weak coupling duality in supersymmetric quantum chromodynamics and studying duality in string theory. Recently he had constructed several examples of string theories that are dual to each other.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Lauren; and his sons, Marc and David.

Graduate alumni memorials are prepared by the APGA.
