DEWITT D. BARLO\X JR.. age 79, mechanical engineer and business executive, (lied Jan. 13, 1992, at his home in Essex, Conn. Mr. Barlow was born in Plainfield, NJ., on July 22, 1912. He received his secondary education at Phillips Exeter Academy and his undergraduate degree at Yale Univ. lie came to Princeton and earned his master's degree in mechanical engineering in 1936. He then joined the Atlantic, Gulf and Pacific Company and advanced to the company presidency. When this company was liquidated, Mr. Barlow continued as a consultant for the Bos Kallis Westminster Group, in the Netherlands. As a Plainfielder from birth until 1980, Mr. Barlow was most active in civic affairs. He served as president of the Plainfield Area American Red Cross, as a director of Muhlenberg Hospital, as a director of the Plainfield Housing Authority, and as a director of the Plainfield Country Club. I lis activity in civic affairs continued unabated after his 1980 move to Connecticut. He is survived by his widow, the former Mary Lee Brewer, three daughters, one son, and six grandchildren.
