Dewitt Morgan Manning ’30
DEWITT MANNING died Dec. 23, 1992, in a nursing home in El Monte, Calif., after a long illness. During his years at Princeton, he had health problems that required him to lose time and resulted in his graduation with the Class of 1931. Since he entered Princeton with our class, he chose to stay with '30. He spent his childhood in Iowa, Missouri, and New Orleans, and in 1926, he graduated with highest honors from Peabody H.S. in Pittsburgh. At Princeton, he was active in the Triangle Club and belonged to Tower Club. He had the benefit of an academic scholarship at Princeton, but after graduation, he worked at the gas company to pay his way through the law school of Loyola Univ. of Los Angeles. In 1941, he married May Virginia Stevens. After WWII, he joined the law firm of Getz, Aikens, and Manning (which became Manning, Leaver, Bruder, and Berberick). He retired in 1982, after contracting Pick's disease. He is survived by his brother Joe; his son Morgan; two daughters, Ginny Hunter and Ann Scoggins; and six grandchildren. To them the class extends sincere sympathy.
