Doddridge H. Nevitt Jr. ’59

Dee died Aug. 30, 2009, in Rockford, Mich.

Born in Washington, D.C., Dee was the son of Doddridge Nevitt ’33. Coming to Princeton from Lawrenceville, Dee majored in English and joined Cloister Inn, but left during sophomore year to join the Air Force.

Dee served in the Air Force for 20 years, retiring as a major. He served in Vietnam as navigator on a KC-135, performing midair refueling operations for fighter aircraft. After his separation from the Air Force he settled in New Canaan, Conn., and worked as director of quality control at Compositions Systems Inc. in Elmsford, N.Y. He met Julia Carlson in New Canaan in 1980, and they were married in 1985. Sometime thereafter they moved to Rockford.

Dee had four daughters from his first marriage, one of whom predeceased him. He was an avid golfer and photographer and, according to Julia, “a very private person.” He directed that he not have a funeral, but requested that his daughters scatter his ashes on a favorite mountaintop.

Dee is survived by Julia and his three daughters. We have sent condolences.
