Donald Arthur Demott ’52
DON'S PROMISING CAREER in the ministry was cut short after the diagnosis of an aggressive cancer. He died Dec. 13,1966, just nine months following the discovery of his illness. His funeral was at Calvary Presbyterian Church, West St. Louis County, the congregation he was serving.
Don's faith and ministry formed the center of his life. He graduated with high honors in religion, and entered Princeton Seminary in the fall of 1952, Don and Ruth Berger were married on June 5, 1951.
From 1955 to 1959, Don served as assistant at the First Presbyterian Church, New Rochelle, NY. Declining an offer to enter campus work at Kent State, Don accepted a call to Calvary Church, where he succeeded Ken Mitchell '52, the founding pastor. He served that church from 1959 until his death. An indication of Don's pastoral effectiveness was the fact that very few of the 300 members of the parish left after his participation in the Selma march in 1965.
At Princeton, Don belonged to Prospect Club, and was active in the Westminster Fellowship and the Student Christian Association. His roommates were Ken Mitchell and Bob Matthews.
Don is survived by Ruth, and their three children, Heidi, Daniel, and Matthew. We extend to them our deepest sympathies.
